September 3rd,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

GYI0000689345.jpg We’re so upset to hear that T.I. and wife ‘Tiny’ were arrested Sept. 2 in West Hollywood! L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies searched the rapper’s car and took the couple into custody!
Just when T.I. thought his legal troubles were behind him, the multi-platinum-selling artist was arrested Sept. 2, along with wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, for alleged “possession of a controlled substance.” TMZ is reporting that a small amount of ecstasy was found in the car and the pills are being “tested.”

T.I., 29 and Tameka, 36, were pulled over on Sunset Blvd. around 10:30 p.m. by The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It’s unclear why the couple was initially pulled over, but reports claim authorities smelled marijuana coming from their Maybach. RadarOnline.com reports that after the LASD searched the luxury vehicle, the two were arrested and booked at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.

The longtime couple was married July 30, and T.I. just recently finished his seven month prison sentence for federal weapons charges. The Grammy winner and Tameka were held on a bail of $10,000 and released around 4 a.m. PDT.

Bonnie Says: Oh No! The Downhome Obama Oval Office Makeunder Is A Disaster — You Agree?

September 2nd,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

Oval Office Decor Don’t you think the President’s Office looks like a family room now? Who put throw pillows on the presidential couches and turned the coffee table into a giant TV tray?
BFFs, I’m appalled by the Oval Office makeunder, are you? Don’t you feel like the President of the United States needs to sit in a room that has a certain regality to it? The Oval Office couches shouldn’t look like they’re ready for Rahm Emanuel and Robert Gibbs to sprawl out on with clickers, ready to watch the football game!

And what’s with those Crate and Barrel-esque lamps? I can’t believe that characterless lamps that look like they cost $49.99 have replaced the elegant gold and porcelain lights of before.

I understand that Barack — I’m calling him by his first name because he appears to want us to think he’s our neighbor — has taken the concept of the “President is just like us,” this far!

We don’t want the President to have corduroy couches and brown leather wing back chairs. Huh? Does the Pres want to walk around in slippers and get all cosy in there? We don’t want him to be cosy. We want him to be a worldly leader with sophisticated tastes.

Barack — what have you done with the blue striped chairs that picked up the blue of the Presidential seal on the rug? I say, makeunder, be banished! Pull out the old furniture. Better for it to be threadbare and tasteful, then brand new and bonkers!

Where’s Glenn Beck when you need him? Glenn— forget your irresponsible race-baiting and do something useful! March on the White House and protest the embarrassing Oval Office makeunder!

Marcus Jordan's Las Vegas Partying Under Formal Investigation

September 1st,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

s-MARCUS-JORDAN-LAS-VEGAS-large300 LAS VEGAS — MGM Resorts International was under investigation after the underage son of basketball great Michael Jordan bragged on Twitter about partying at a Las Vegas Strip nightclub, Nevada gambling regulators said Monday.

Officials were examining whether the casino operator violated laws prohibiting drinking or gambling by minors, Nevada Gaming Control Board enforcement chief Jerry Markling said.

People under 21 often try to gamble or drink in Las Vegas, but punishment for casino operators depend on the circumstances, Markling said.

Jordan's 19-year-old son Marcus Jordan tweeted Aug. 20 about spending $35,000 at Haze at Aria Resort & Casino.

"Last night was stupid... 35K at Haze," the University of Central Florida sophomore guard said. "Totals 50K something the whole day."

The tweet has since been removed from the site.

Jordan told a Fox Sports website last week that the tweet was a mistake and said he had conversations with both his parents about it.

"I didn't mean it the way it came across," he said. "My family and friends know the type of person I am."

Jordan was in Las Vegas for his dad's fantasy basketball camp with his brother, Jeffrey, and teammate A.J. Rompza.

A video posted to Twitter by Jeffrey Jordan shows all three players hanging out at the Liquid Pool Lounge, the resort's adults-only pool.

UCF basketball spokesman Doug Richards said the school had no comment.

MGM Resorts spokesman Alan Feldman declined comment. The Aria is the centerpiece casino of CityCenter, the company's joint venture with Dubai World that cost $8.5 billion to build.

Markling said he could not comment specifically about the case. He said the control board's findings would not be made public.

Markling said punishments in general depend on the infraction's scope, and could involve verbal warnings, fines, or in extreme cases suspending an operator's gambling license.

Eyeing State Firms

August 31st,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

In August, China’s biggest job-search site released a survey of 200,000 Chinese college students, ranking their -preferences for employment. Only three non-Chinese multinational corporations made the list of the top 50: Google, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble, all in the top 10. That’s a steep decline from the 21 foreign firms that made the list last year.

The results are more evidence that, particularly since the financial crisis, big Chinese companies are seen as offering less-risky jobs with more growth potential. The top company on the list, China Mobile, “combines the best of both worlds for Chinese graduates,” says Andy Mok, president of executive search firm Red Pagoda Resources. It provides “the stability of a state-owned enterprise in a rapidly growing industry.” (Thirty-three of the companies on the list are state-owned.) There’s also the sense that some of these Chinese companies, like the online giant Alibaba (ranked No. 2), “are on the verge of a breakthrough,” says Mok.

Of course, it’s difficult to know the extent to which the statistics may have been officially manipulated. “Many [young job-seekers] would say on the record that it is better to work for a state-owned enterprise because it’s more politically correct,” says one foreign business consultant working in China. Yet if there’s a growing ethos among China’s new college graduates that state-owned companies are the way to go, it’s yet another bad sign for Beijing’s beleaguered foreign business community, which desperately needs to recruit and retain all the Chinese talent it can find.

Fazel Ahmed Faqiryar, Anti-Corruption Afghan Prosecutor, Fired By Karzai

August 30th,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

s-KARZAI-large KABUL, Afghanistan -- A top Afghan prosecutor who has complained that the attorney general and others are blocking corruption cases against high-ranking government officials said Saturday that he was fired by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Deputy Attorney General Fazel Ahmed Faqiryar told the New York Times Saturday that he was fired for refusing to block corruption investigations in "the highest levels" of Karzai's government. Faqiryar told the Associated Press that he was forced to retire.

Faqiryar, 72, said he wanted to continue doing his work, which has involved pursuing corruption allegations against top officials in the Karzai administration -- a task which had put him in the middle of a political fire storm.

U.S. officials have been pressing Karzai to do more to root out corruption. Karzai has pushed back, saying that the international community needs to do more to eliminate corruption in its own contracting procedures and eliminate terrorist havens outside the borders of Afghanistan.

"Everybody knows how hard I was working as a deputy attorney general," Faqiryar said in a telephone interview. "It was my responsibility as a top government official to complete and investigate those cases, especially those where high-ranking officials were involved in corruption, and this is what I did."

He said that cases against three or four former Afghan Cabinet ministers had been completed, but had been put on hold and had not been sent to the courts. Five provincial governors have been accused of corruption, he said. Two of the cases involving governors have been sent to court and three remain under investigation, he said.

In addition, Faqiryar said that several Afghan ambassadors to other nations have been accused of corruption.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta In Pakistan: 'Living On The Edge'

August 30th,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

slide_10068_132270_large CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta is in Pakistan getting a first-hand look at the devastation that has continued since record monsoon rains caused intense flooding a month ago. He's sent notes and photos back from the road that show the extent of a crisis that most Americans could not comprehend.

"You have to be on the ground to be able to understand the report," Gupta wrote. "This is an ongoing disaster. Many think the flood has passed, but I am in an area that was dry yesterday, and completely flooded today."

Gupta also chimes in on why Americans may have been hesitant to give money to nonprofits working in Pakistan. The American Red Cross alone raised $32 million for Haiti relief through text-contribution efforts. The same campaign for Pakistan has raised only $10,000.

Gupta's theory:

I think the initial lack of attention was for a few reasons. First, it is an incredibly difficult place to get to, and to navigate once you are here -- and even worse with the floods. Also, there was no pyrotechnic event, such as an earthquake or hurricane that gets attention. It was a slow burn that became increasingly worse. Finally, geo-politically, this is a tough area for Americans to grasp, and rumors of Taliban attacking foreign aid workers did not help the situation. Unfortunately, it may make people even less likely to give.
The Washington Post's David Ignatius adds a few other arguments to the list. He believes Islamophobia may have a hand in the diminishing compassion -- he suggests that increasing our generosity could "break through the usual political barriers and resentments."

See some of Gupta's photos from Pakistan below. All photos by Danielle Dellorto/CNN.

EXCLUSIVE! Real Housewife Alex McCord Is ‘Excited’ To Start Her Career As A Super Model!

August 28th,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

60621061 The Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord just got a HUGE modeling deal! “I just signed with the celebrity division of New York Model Management,” Alex told HollywoodLife.com exclusively Aug. 26 at the 11th Annual BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis Charity Event at the W Hotel in NYC.

“The director of the agency and Simon and I had all met some years ago at a fashion event. We kept in touch,” Alex said of how she got the contract.

“We kept in touch with him as friends,” Alex’s husband, Simon van Kempen explained. “Until we went out to dinner with him again a month ago, it was never on the radar.”

“It was just something that was brought up and seemed to make sense,” Alex added. “This is all happening literally just now. I’m excited. It seems like a lot of fun.”

“I had a great time walking the runway before,” she told us. (Remember when Alex walked the runway for a charity event in season three?) “I’ve done a lot of photo shoots especially recently for building up this book and I had fun doing that too. I think that usually the way it works is the agent goes to clients and they figure out what models they want to use for what.”

Though no gigs are lined up yet, it doesn’t seem like Alex is that picky about who she works for first. “I love clothing as wearable art. I said that on season one of the show,” Alex said. “There are so many amazing designers that are so creative.”

And at least Simon is super supportive of Alex’s new career. “I’m super proud,” Simon gushed. “An old woman can still be beautiful, look at that!”

“I’m actually the youngest one on our franchise,” Alex jokingly reminded him. “Thank you very much!”

EPA Bans Cruise Ships From Dumping Sewage Near California Coast

August 27th,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

s-CARNIVAL-GRAND-TURK-large300 SAN FRANCISCO — Cruise ships and other large commercial vessels will not be allowed to dump sewage within three miles of the California coast under a new federal rule, environmental regulators announced Wednesday.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's new rule will take effect early next year and adds teeth to existing state law, which already bans ships from dumping runoff from their showers or sinks, oil or other hazardous substances.

Regional EPA Administrator Jared Blumenfeld said cruise ships and other vessels dump 20 million gallons of sewage off California's coast each year, which ends up fouling beaches and bays.

Some cruise ships can hold 6,000 passengers, so a lot of sewage can be dumped from just one vessel. The refuse ends up being jettisoned into the sea, and if close enough to shore can affect water quality at beaches, leading to closures.

Michael Crye, executive vice president of Cruise Lines International Association, said its members already follow discharge regulations exceeding the new standards. The group represents 25 companies, including Carnival and Disney Cruise Lines.

"Our vessels have been following industry wide practices and California state law. They don't discharge within three miles of the California coast, and have been following that for a number of years," Crye said.

But the new rule doesn't just target cruise liners. Large container vessels bringing goods into port also would be covered by the regulation, which will apply to all vessels of 300 gross tons or more.

"California is a hub for international trade, with ports in Los Angeles, Long Beach and Oakland. So a lot of sewage ends up in our waters for goods that end up in Chicago and New York," Blumenfeld said.

Even though the state's measure originally included sewage, regulating that discharge falls under the jurisdiction of the federal Clean Water Act, so EPA had to take the lead on controlling it.

August 26th,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

082510_XXXX_Karissa-_Shannon_kendra_wilkinson1 Fellow Playboy Bunny Karissa Shannon is set to spill all the details of Kendra’s wild past in an explosive new tell-all!
Just when she thought the sex tape scandal was behind her, Kendra Wilkinson has a new problem to worry about. Karissa Shannon, Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriend who lived at the Playboy Mansion at the same time as Kendra, is set to reveal dirty details about Kendra’s partying past that will shake up her family life with husband Hank Baskett and baby Hank.

“Kendra’s always been really jealous of me,” Karissa tells Life & Style. “Kendra is definitely scared,” she continues, as she describes her juicy autobiography that will be chock full of details Kendra had hoped to leave behind in the past, now that she is happily raising her baby boy – and hoping for baby number two. Karissa claims she saw the Kendra star doing things at the Playboy Mansion that “no one would believe.”

Karissa seems to have no problem betraying her former housemate in her new book as she feels the party girl turned mom has already said negative things to her. “It seems like she always has negative things to say” the Girls Next Door star said. Karissa thinks that Kendra, who plans to have liposuction, is not feeling secure in her post-baby body. “I think it has to do with having the baby-maybe she’s a little more insecure about her weight and her relationship with her husband now that her ex-boyfriend released a sex tape of her.”

Karisa is also in the news currently for the sext tape she made with Heidi Montag that Spencer Pratt is trying to sell.

Faith Hill Performs At Gulf Relief Benefit

August 25th,2010 by SallyADD COMMENTS

s-FAITH-HILL-large300 NEW ORLEANS — Country music star Faith Hill says giving back just comes naturally for the Mississippi native, and she has a message for those still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

"We are here for you still and you are not forgotten," Hill said before headlining a free concert Tuesday evening in New Orleans to support those still rebuilding five years later.

She said the evening at the Mahalia Jackson Theater was intended to celebrate how far the Gulf Coast has come since the 2005 storm flooded New Orleans and surrounding areas of Louisiana and Mississippi.

"I feel like it's my responsibility to give back," Hill said. "When you've been given so much, it's only right that I do what I can to help, if I can."

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band opened Tuesday's event and about 2,200 tickets were distributed in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette and the Mississippi cities of Biloxi and Jackson.

Mona Rowe, of Perkinston, Miss., said she was glad to have the opportunity to see Hill perform.

"She is just outstanding," Rowe said. "She knows and understands what we went through and what we're trying to do."

Hill took the stage after the Dirty Dozen's set, opening with her hits "Free" and "Wild One" before bringing the New Orleans-based brass band back on stage to play backup on her song, "There Will Come A Day."

"The Dirty Dozen Brass Band must come back on stage," Hill told the audience, to rousing applause. "You guys were simply amazing."
